Well I got slack with my blog again, but I have a wonderful excuse this time! I had a beautiful baby girl almost 1 year ago. So in my spare time (hahaha what's that anymore!) I've been having fun sewing cute little outfits for her.
Now we didn't find out our baby's gender but I did have a dream while pregnant that I had a baby girl and she was wearing a blue gingham romper with flutter sleeves and a big bow. So when she was 5 months old I made her that romper!
This pattern is the Overall Playsuit by OhMeOhMy. I've sewn a few of these now and have made a few changes.
- I added a snap panel to the bottom for easier nappy changes - I used the pattern piece and instructions from the Bellevue Romper by Little Lizard King.
- I also used the Bellevue Romper by Little Lizard King leghole elastic casing technique with bias binding which means removing 5/8" from the leghole pattern piece since it doesn't need to be turned twice, it's so much quicker and easier!
- Even though my baby is very tall I find the straps slip off her shoulders, so I'll either shorten them or add an extra snap. This is the 6-9 month size and it still fits her now that she is wearing 12-18 month size in RTW.
- Lastly I found that the back elastic casing was too small, so for this version I used smaller elastic. Others I sewn since, I did reduce the seam allowance and did the top stitching even closer to the edge.
The fabric is from Frankie Bear Fabric, it comes in lots of colours but I love blue so that will always be my first choice! If you're looking for a family owned fabric supplier in Australia you should have a look at their beautiful fabrics.
